Join Eagle Bluff’s founding Director, Joe Deden, for a 4-5 mile hike to a remote trust fund 40 originally set up to fund local schools, now designated as a site of significant conservation interest. This adventure involves two river crossings with water ~ 3 feet deep (trekking poles recommended). After visiting the trust fund 40 we will descend down a narrow hogsback ridge with dominant white pines frequented by bald eagles which is Joe’s most favorite place on earth to be. Part of the hike will be on an old stagecoach trail (Rochester to Decorah we were told). Backpacks with ample water and energy bars recommended! Could be in the winter crossing on ice - snow depths could make it more challenging! This event is held entirely outdoors.
This is best suited for those who can handle a steady hike and the 2 river crossings

Likely August or early September 2021 depending on water depth. Could be anytime and water is low enough and warm enough to cross!
Get exclusive access to Eagle Bluff’s remote private land, The Point, for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or hiking! We’ll lay track on the extensive trail network for traditional cross-country skiing. Unless temperatures are bitterly cold, eagles stay along the river with occasional wintering flocks of robins and bluebirds. River otter tracks can often be seen on parts of the frozen river and along the trail. Rehydrate after your adventure with hot cider and a roaring fire in the Ben Stanek fireplace in the old barn foundation. Requires 4 wheel drive vehicles for access. Cross-country skis or snowshoes are available upon request.

Reserve a remote primitive campsite at Eagle Bluff’s remote private property, The Point. Complete with picnic table, fire ring, and firewood for an extended stay (3 days, 2 nights). Be sure to bring your fishing pole as this area boasts some of the best fishing to be found on the Root River. Eagles frequent the area and if you are quiet enough you’ll be able to see beaver from a nearby den swimming upstream. Campers have even heard tail slaps at night! This spot has access to sandy beaches where cairn building is a continual renewal art adventure. Coordinate your specific weekend with Eagle Bluff by potentially adding summer ropes or other activities (not included in this price). Beautiful place to leave your tent’s rain fly off and watch the summer sky!
